I also struggles with wording.  I had trouble finding the right word that I was looking for, so I ended up rambling for awhile trying to explain what I was talking about.  This turned in to long sentences, very awkwardly worded.  I found that I was able to use one or two words to describe what I had previously been talking about in one or two sentences.  I also didn’t do a good job editing my paper before I turned it in, because sometimes I would have to same word written twice in a row, or repeat myself using the same words in the same sentence.  Whoops.

My solution now is very simple and I hope that I covered all the loopholes without creating anymore.

In high school, we spent a lot of time on revising and the whole process.  We wrote all sorts of papers and in one of my classes, we got graded on the quality of our revision, like if we were making helpful comments and good suggestions.  It definately helped me understand how to really help people with their papers, as well as some of my own papers.  My favorite thing to do is read my papers out loud to myself, because I am able to pick up lots or errors that I can’t see on the screen.

I cannot understand the absolute disgust toward food.  I myself LOVE food.  Absolutely love it.  If there is ever a day when I really have had it rough or just need to indulge myself, I turn to a delicious helping of food.  I am fortunate enough to have a metabolism that lets me eat how I like and be able to keep a healthy body image.  I have never felt the pressures to be thin however.  I understand that the media portrays woman a certain way, but maybe because I have never been on the other side of the spectrum, I don’t feel as though I am under pressure to look good.

I don’t know what the solution to this horrible disorder is, other than to teach girls at a young age to LOVE THEIR BODIES!  Too many young girls worry about their looks, instead of just living everyday to the maximum.  Unfortunately, I believe there is no way to truly get rid of anorexia or bulimia, because their are some girls who will just always hate their body, even if other perceive them as beautiful.

I read an article about why cash for clunkers is a waste of money.  The author’s arguement was mainly about the fact that people who drive SUV’s don’t want to downsize their cars, that little cars are ugly, and that the whole program encourages people to buy cars that they can’t afford.  I really didn’t agree with the points that the author made, mainly because I don’t think she did enough research into the topic before she wrote about it.  Some of her arguments weren’t backed by anything other than her opinion, and she even contradicts herself when she says that, “American’s are buying smaller, lighters cars….it seems that more people prefer trucks and SUV’s” WHAT???

There was way to much opinion in this short article and not enough actual fact; the author had one fact, which was about how much someone could get a rebate for.  The rest was her complaining about how the only cars she could afford (with the rebate) are ugly.  Well maybe she shouldn’t be buying a car then, if even with the rebate, they are out of her price range.  The program did boost automotive sales and no one can argue that the automotive industry needed a little help, even if you don’t agree on how we should have helped them.  We are in a time when we as consumers need to be more aware of our ecological impact, especially when it comes to using natural resources from foreign countries.  Getting a car with better fuel economy really isn’t a big sacrifice because with the way gas prices are going, you will probably come out ahead with buying a new car, rather than buying MANY tanks of gas over the years.   Before people write articles about programs, they need to do a little more research.  Then maybe the argument will come out as an argument, rather than a poor piece of writing.

Then my junior year, I had a teacher who had a bad relationship with Cliff Notes.  He wouldn’t let us write about anything that the book had already dissected for us.  Well what the heck was I going to do?  This meant I actually had to grasp a deeper understanding of a book and then actually try to explain it to someone else.  For a grade.  That actually became my best year in writing, where I truly became confident in writing and being able to extract and elaborate on ideas from the text.  I began to like writing.  It helped that my teacher liked my writing too and graded me appropriately.

Oh senior year…I don’t think we wrote one legitimate paper in that class.  Not one.  Ok we did actually have to write about what we did over the summer but how challenging is that.  Beach, pool, hang with friends, tan, repeat.  Not to intense or challenging in any way.  I feel like my writing may be a little less that what it was, but I don’t dislike writing.  Not at all.  I feel like I can get my basic ideas down and have them come across in the context that I intended.  Then I add in all the analysis and sometimes, if I need to make it a certain length (which I absolutely despise…I mean how cruel is it for teachers to say I want you to talk about what you think and you have enough material and enough opinion to fill up seven pages.) I add some fluff and filler.

Generally me and writing have a pretty good relationship, thanks to communication and understanding
